Hard 4 mi Mount Whitney After getting a special permit from Supervisor Bob, we hiked up North Fork of Lone Pine Creek. I wanted to stop at Upper Boy Scout Lake, given my previous day's acclimation troubles, but Owen insisted on continuing onto Iceberg. I believe this is how I got a cold, but who knows. Turns out the whole group ended up staying at Upper Boy Scout anyway. As we hiked up, we were mistaken and thought Iceberg Lake lay near the base of Keeler, instead of northeast of Whitney. So we followed some faint cairns and as the sun set, scrambled onto the moraine below Keeler, only to finally check the map and go, oops. I guess the altitude got us both on autopilot. We hiked back down and up to Iceberg's plateau and set up camp with the last light of the day. Details

Medium 7 mi Mount Whitney Ran up the Meysan Lakes trail from Whitney Portal, starting at 1:45pm, to attempt a quick ascent of Lone Pine Peak. Made great time to the base of the gully scramble to the climbing route itself, then two things happened. First, we went up the wrong gully, which was a 4th class loose shitshow. Second, I suddenly got pretty altitude sick - turns out it's challenging to solo 4th class when you're dizzy. So we went back down, I was fine, and we camped at Whitney Portal. Good way to acclimate and burn the requisite day getting a permit. Back to camp around 7pm or 8pm I think. Details
