A well balanced meal is the best post workout meal. If that's not an option chocolate milk is a great post workout drink.

An easy app that will help with finding your recommended caloric intake is myfitness pal. keep in mind it serves as a guide and gives approximations.
starving yourself will actually do the reverse. you're body will go into a self preservation mode and actually retain as much fat as possible through your diet. however, if you never eat for a long period of time, you will lose weight and muscle. It is also very hard on your body, then when you start to eat again youre still going to be in the self preservation mode. Until you're body resets to its equilibrium.
