Turning off the computer and TV (and phone) an hour before bed & reading for a while, these help to calm the mind. Also a few minutes of meditation, or perhaps simple relaxing yoga stretches.
Benadryl helps me get to sleep yes but also I feel sleepy all morning the next day so I never use it. Chemicals can interfere with rem sleep and prevent proper rest.
