My back always hurt when i do the plank challenge.. why is that?

Maybe because u r not performing the exercise properly.

Are you keeping proper form? Is your mid section sagging?  You should be engaging your core and keeping a straight line from toes to head.  Sagging puts lots of strain on the lower back
