That soreness is called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). It develops from microscopic tears in the muscles used. Those tears need a little time to heal. You can feel safe in doing some aerobic training and stretching of the sore muscles but don't do another weight training day (or whatever specific exercise made your sore) until 48 hours has past (every 2 days). You may feel sore for more than 2 days but your body will adapt. If it was aerobic training that made you sore, vary the duration, type and intensity of training to allow for recovery.
