I have a sharp pain from the outside of my hip all the way to my knee. Can you get a stinger in your leg?

It sounds like you have a tight IT band. It's very common amongst runners. You need to get a release by a massage therapist or try using a foam roll or rolling pin and roll it up the side of your leg from the knee to the hip in that direction only (3-4 times.)
