Obsticle course in september

Im new to working out. I was in the army 10 years ago and im noy over weight but im very weak and have no endurance. I want to do an obsticle course marathon in september. Any suggestions on how often i should work out and for how long? For example, one long workout or a few short ones throughout the day. And every day or everyother day? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
