My mum desperately wants to lose weight and she will be 48 in November.
Is this any help?

I'm afraid she won't be starting for a while...she has suspected Tennis Elbow and a bad back...Sorry.

I'm 48, I've been working out with this trainer since December. I've got my co-workers into it. I love it, but I've found I have to know which exercises to skip. Evidently my knees don't like it when I jump for instance, lol. I Other than that, I'm thinking of giving up my gym membership. I've lost 27 lbs at home. I've also cut out grains (i.e bread & rice) that helped diet wise.

I do squats, workout on a punching bag and use a bowflex

Great work Alison! Congratulations on the healthier lifestyle and the super positive results! Looking forward to seeing your additional progress. Bill; not 48 but always looking to motivate others and myself at the same time. Check out my profile and from there, my posts on getting started and my one thread on healthy eating habits. I've always felt that without a strong foundation, weights and weight machines aren't much help. So stick to core toning for a while, then go from there.

Will do, thanks for the encouragement! I'm just trying to stay as consistent as possible Bill. I like the total body workouts that incorporate weights. Gaining and keeping muscle tone is proving to be challenging, especially in my upper body. It's frustrating because I've always taken care to strengthen my arms. I'm thinking I need a good protein supplement. I try to fit in something everyday. I occasionally do a 10 minutes hiit workout in the stairwell, walking down and running up the stairs for 10 minutes on my lunch hour, feels great. Something is always better than nothing.
