Regular crunches and planks
Try a variety of ab exercises rather than rely on crunches, which can bulk up the abs and give you a barrel-like appearance. Try exercises that stretch as well as strengthen the ab muscles. Agree that V sits are excellent for this if you start and finish the exercise flat on the floor in a full length stretch.
