I started back at the gym this week and pushed a little to hard. I'm so sore I can't straiten my arm fully and my chest is bad too. My friend said I should fight theough the pain. I don't want to hurt myself though so please advise.

Don't you do yoga before and after ur work outs ? You know to ease/release the tension I ur muscles.
