I am 156 pounds over weight i could use some advice on what to do at the gym to help me reach my goal weight. Any advice is welcome.

Do anything at all,is better then doing nothing at all...light workouts and cardio to burn fat first...in a month u will see results,u and ur husband doing it together is best way to motivate each other:-)

Our problem is he only wants to lift and thats it

Well you guys are in it together so maybe you guys can come up with a compromise but if he does lifting that means it's not about him or just you anymore you guys are together so you guys have to make a commitment to working out as well as the marriage :-)

I agree with Jeremy that together is best but you also have to remember that you can't make him do anything and you can't do it for him. All you can do is encourage him and try to guide him. But as far as workouts go I would suggest high intensity low weight high rep lifting (because more muscle means high metabolism which means more fat being burned) also cardio is important as well as diet.
