Endurance running (long distance) will help you lose weight. Sprint intervals will help you lose weight and tone/make muscle.. Basically, look at the way a distance runner looks compared to a sprinter

A complete answer! Concentrate on the breathing too while running like initiate inhaling with alternating steps like one once on your right step and onc on your left. Happy running :)

SK is right. Also consider that running (long or short) is cardio, which will burn fat.  Longer distance can also reduce muscle mass.  Both mean less weight.  BUT you must consider a proper diet because depending on your type of workouts, your type of intake will need to change as well to stay healthy and have energy.
