Overhand pull ups (not chin ups) should start as a back and shoulder movement, not from the arms. Hang on the bar, feet off the ground, keeping your arms straight and using just your back and shoulder muscles, perform a shrug pull up (http://youtu.be/5a8rsAp1G8c). Do a few sets of these every time your at the gym. Everyday at home, do 3-4 sets of small arm circles for about 30 seconds each, being sure to really squeeze your shoulder blades together when rotating backwards. These will help you build your rhomboids, mid/lower traps and posterior delts to make pull ups easier and improve your posture as an added bonus!
