I am ready to lose some weight. This is the heaviest I have ever been. I am 6'3 and 282lb, I want to loose at least 40lb.

Building muscle. For each pound of muscle you gain you'll burn an extra 50 calories a day by just living. Imagine if you gain 10 pounds of muscles, that'll be 500 a day. So cardio is very important but make friends with the weights too or even use your body weight. You're on to a good start. Good luck!
