Why do footballers, rugby players, etc have an ice bath after certain training sessions? I've never understood this!

Well, I'm in track and after interval days, I'm in the ice bath for quite a while. It's mostly to prevent your muscles from tearing after intense workouts. The ice keeps the swelling down. Hope that helped!

Marathon runners, pro cyclists too. Clothed, in cold water bathtub, add 2 doz icecubes, sit there for 10 minutes, hot shower next, then a massage. I have done 26 marathons ......26 miles 385 yards.....it works.
