Anyone running or toneing?

I was never the BEST at basketball but I really want to improve my game for my high school team! I'm trying to run a 5k in half an hour without stopping to walk, reducing my eating, and tone my abs and legs before the end of summer. Wish me luck? Any tips? Whar are YOU doing?Running Training Week 1 <--- I'm only at this stage.

Not sure if long distance running is the best prep for basketbal inprovement though :-)

It's also for personal gain, and it's a requirenment for tryouts, but, what would you suggest?

If its a requirement for tryouts than you should train the longer run indeed. For a sport as basketbal conditioning i would mainly do sprint interval training and tabata based workouts.

Week 1(for running): 1min run 1 min walk for half and hour (3 days of the week with one day break in between for all weeks)
Week 2: 2min run 1 min walk also half an hour
Week 3: 3 min run 1 min walk for 32 min
Week 4: 4 min run 1 min walk for 30 min
Week 5: 5 min run 1 min walk for 30 min 
Week 6: 6 min run 1 min walk for 32 min 
Week 7: 7 min run 1 min walk for 27 min
Week 8: 8 min run 1 min walk for 30 min 
This is what I am doing for my 5k and i am starting week 7 tommorrow and i can't wait for the 5k.
