Should i work out on a yoga matt?

Working out is hard for my joints as it is and i gotta start getting calcium and my yoga matt i just returned said it causes birth defects and cancer cuz the chemicals so ill get a new one.also does a yoga matt make yoga much easier ?

Great observation. Manduka makes PVC-free mats, just google non toxic yoga mats, there are several companies, like Rawganics who sell Hemp mats.... since I sweat tons when I do yoga (especially during Breakti sessions which is breakdance mixed with yoga), I usually put a large towel over my mat, that, btw is also a way to avoid inhalation of any possibly toxic fumes from rubber mats. ...
