Can't go wrong with some dumbells as they can be used for such a wide variety of exercises. If on a budget and lack of space resistance bands can really help especially if you get some high resistance ones. They are usually very cheap and can be adapted for use for a whole body workout. I also recommend a foam roller to help stretching and post workout pain however this is not such a necessity :)
