First, get off that fad shit.
Proteins are the building blocks of almost everything in your body. Need proof - read the product monograph or any pharmaceutical drug and especially it's pharmacology. You will see proteins being mentioned a lot.
Throughout the day you eat well balanced meals (carbs, essential fats, proteins)... Then after your workout, you do the same except in liquid form- why? So your body absorbs it faster and doesn't have to expend as much energy.
