The Rock & Roll series host marathons, 1/2 Marathons, 10k, and 5k races all across the nation. I have my own personal training schedule to get ready for my second 1/2 Marathon this year. If you want to get in on the Action let me know!
I would like to join in. This is my first time getting ready for a 5k race taking place in August 9. But would like to keep going up to a 10k. How do you get ready for the race? What do you do in your training schedule?
Depending on your history of running your training will vary a little. I love to run! It's always mind over matter. Start by picking 3 days a week to run. Mine are Mon, Wed, & Sat. The other days are my cross training days doing core and leg exercises, and arm and back. Alternate days on which do those exercises. Ex: today was Cardo and leg day for me, yoga every Friday and long runs each saturday. Take care of those knees and hamstrings all do dynamic stretching before a run. Start out small if your not a runner on your run days .5 miles and increase at a respectable pace. I am scheduled to run 2 miles this weekend, and 5 in 2 weeks. It's also important to keep your pace so running with a partner helps (as long as they aren't sprinting track Star). Don't start out to fast, and watch your breathing, keep good posture while running (shoulders square, head up and chest forward. Last but not least invest in good running shoes! Let me know how your progress goes and I will share mine as well! Best of luck to you!
Thanks for your response. I have been running Mon through Fri. Mon, Wed, and Fri I run 1 mile and then Tues and Thurs. 3 miles. As well as i work on my whole body everyday like lunges, sqauts, situps pushups and HIIT. Idk if this may be too much or its ok? I rest on sat and sun. And thanks good luck to you as well.
And yes i do need to work on my posture while running I try to keep my back straight but before i even know it im sloutching again. Thanks for your adivse and help.
I am doing my first half this year. It's a Rock N Roll one. I am excited. I have a training plan similar to yours. I started running this year and have been doing run/walk intervals. I have done 3 5k races, 3 10k races and will finish with the half. I am focusing on just finishing it since it my first time. I have improved on the intervals for a 5k though and have gone 2.5 miles straight through. With training and races I am sure I will be able to do a 5k straight through. Eventually I will increase my endurance and do less intervals, but for now I am at least doing something.
You're welcome! Another thing is where your hands are. Keep them in a 90 degree angle with your wrist at hour waist. Don't cross your across your chest.
That's awesome. Where is the race you are doing being held?
Sorry I haven't posted for a while! School has started and it's crazy right now! Just wanted to drop a line and say today was a great run! Threw in some hills to really build up those leg muscles and it was killer! Tip for the day: if you have weak muscles and joints like I do then you need to invest in KT Tape. Made my run a world of difference! About $10 at academy! Hope all is well and have a great week! God BLESS!
Having a stressful week? Run to some instrumental versions of music! It's a great way to relieve the stress and sort of meditate while you run! Have a great weekend!
