When you want to get bigger, generally you want the heaviest weight you can do to complete your reps, generally 8-10, do 3 sets of your desired reps. To ensure your breaking down muscle to rebuild, use a heavy weight that makes the last few reps difficult to complete but still able to maintain form. Don't sacrifice form for weight. Finally the types of excerices you choose to do depends on the muscle groups you're trying to work. If you're starting out I would stick to the large muscle groups first to build strength before you work on definition. Otherwise think about what you want to work and choose some exercises that work that area. Hope this helps and enjoy the journey!
