Keeping muscle after surgery

So i had surgery on my stomach yesterday which means i can do only very light cardio and no strength training for three weeks.
Does anyone have any tips on making sure i do not lose muscle mass?

Focus on your diet don't stress about anything too much and 10-30 gms protein every 3 hours depending upon your calorie window

Do not try to keep every inch of gained muscle during your recovery - esp. not by drugs or supplements (each of which is useless when not working out and will just flatten your purse).

Three weeks is not too long. You may loose about 10% of your strength, but you can easily and fast gain it again when back on track - as usual when you try to get back to a level where you have already been (much easier then extending your capabilities).

I'd suggest to take it slow and to be patient. Keep moving just a little every day, e.g. by walks, and then hit it when you are fully back in business. There's nothing worse than a setback within recovery - injuries may be very serious and lengthen the period to some months.

Thanks for the advice! I actually had to undergo this surgery for the second time because i did not give my body enough time to rest after the first time. So i will definetely try to be patient this time :)

Hey.  Just noticed your post.  PM me.  I have worked with athletic trainers for years and had my fair share of injuries.  I have a few things you can try.  Many can be done from home in front of your TV.  Best part about rehab is just staying active, not pushing yourself to hard.  Cardio may suffer but that doesn't mean you can't be active.
