Is it mandatory to have protein? I'm not sure but if yes, what do you guys recommend! Also, what are fish oil pills used for?

Hi Nav, It is very important to have protein in your diet, as protein is what helps us maintain, grow and repair our muscles. A general rule of thumb is to have 1g of protein for every kg of weight. For example, if you weigh 50kg, you should be consuming 50g of protein. Hope that helps :)

Protein is necessary for everyone's well being. You see, protein is broken down into amino acids, which are then used in many of our cells functions. When you are recieving adequate protein, coupled with vitamins, minerals, and good nutrition, you will actually notice that you feel better, less moody or cranky, have more energy, and less desire to eat (especially unhealthy salty or fatty foods). This is because your cells are metabolizing on "full" rather than on depleted energy. Make sense? Now, as far as losing weight, you do not need to specifically target protein. It is a good idea to increase your protein intake just because foods high in protein tend to make you feel fuller, longer. You also get more calories, or energy, from these foods since they break down more slowly and completely. This is a good thing! However, you do not need to start crunching protein shakes in order to lose weight :) Now fish oil is used primarily bc it contains omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, which are essential to your health as well. However, you are young and don't need to worry about supplementing them right now (by taking fish oil). These tend to be taken by people with high cholesterol or various heart and blood problems.
