I workout 3-4 times a week work outs last 45 min to 1 hour , I keep my calories under 1500 on the days I'm not fasting. Fasting days my calorie intake is around 500. I cook all my meals, do not eat fast food at all. I'm not seeing any results other than some toning. But my job is a desk job so I sit majority of the day. I've been doing this routine for several months, I'm so frustrated and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am completely open to any suggestions.

What kind of workouts are you doing/what’s your goal (gain muscle or just lose weight)? Are they weightlifting or cardio? I’ve learned the best results are to focus on different muscle groups through weightlifting each day (3-5 times a week) and work on cardio/abs afterwards ( if there’s any time.

The other thing is cutting calories might not be the best thing. Since you may be missing important nutrients such as protein and fiber.

I found a book that was very helpful for developing workouts. It’s called Bigger, Leaner, Stronger. There’s also another book called Thinner, Leaner, Stronger by which is for females, however I read both and realized their the same book. Anyways, it’s worth checking out and super helpful for developing workouts/meal plans. It also debunks a lot of workout/diet myths that you hear about.

Weight loss is my primary goal. I'm 5'2 and I weigh 160, goal weight is 110-120.  I've been doing mainly HIIT with weights at home, not in a gym. Thank you so much for your advice! I will definitely check out that book and try and increase my protein and fiber.

Hi Steffani,

Your first goal should be a healthy lifestyle, not a weight society or anyone else dictates too you, as long as it is healthy.

To gain weight = build muscle
To lose weight = cardio

Desk job shouldn't matter. You could bike more to work for example.

Also eating less can cause your body to go into 'storage mode', which means it will start to store food because it thibks there is a draught or something, that's what I read.

So, eat healthy but have fun too, excercise regularly a few times a week, and that should be enough.
Some people just have different body types, and it is harder for them to reach certain goals. I'll never be a great marathon runner (if I ever run one at all) but love sprinting and biking for example.

Thanks Tom for your message!!! I do live a fairly healthy life and I just think I should have seen some changes on the scale/measurements. I'm just really confused on what I'm supposed to do. Thanks again for your message, I really appreciate it!
