So I've been doing dancing for about 6 years, and have over split left and right leg, scorpion etc etc
However basically since I've started I've had extreme troubles with my middle split! Only through hard work have I been able to almost get it ( and when I say almost, I mean there's like a cm between me being flat). I also have trouble with my butterfly stretch! Is this related? Does anyone know any stretches to help? Thanks so much in advance x

You should try full body yoga stretches on YouTube.

What I do is that I hold it for about a minute or a commercial on TV.

You'd be surprised with the helpful videos posted on YouTube. Professionals sharing tips. Just search 'How to do splits'.  Good luck and don't hurt yourself!
