How necessary is a good diet for building muscle?

Ok so I just turned 17 and am of a small stature (about 5'6" and 120 pounds) and to put it simply have practically no muscle. How necessary would a good diet be for me to build muscle? Any tips?

How important? It is just as important as lifting the weights themselves. If your body does not have the proper nutrients, I don't care how much you're lifting it won't amount to squat. Serious people looking to build muscle will eat 1gram of protein per pound of body weight each day. In your case you would be looking at 120 grams of protein per day.

Totally, proper diet and exercise are the key to loosing weight or gaining muscle. Everyone is different and some things work better for others. Start a journal and keep track of food and exercise, this will help you find out what works best for you.

Here's an example - when you wanna pack on muscle increase the calories. When you wanna lose body fat, drop em down
