You need to eat fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates. Eat fruits that are low sugar like strawberries, blueberries, apples, etc. and all non-starchy vegetables. The best proteins for you are low fat, like chicken, turkey, fish, and lean beef. Consuming complex carbohydrates in moderate quantities are beneficial; eat brown rice, sweet potatoes, quinoa, and steel cut oatmeal. Healthy fats consist of nuts and seeds, good oils like olive and grapeseed, and avocados. Avoid simple sugars and simple carbohydrates like white bread, white potatoes, white rice, white sugar, and corn syrup. Also avoid unhealthy oils like hydrogenated soybean oil, corn oil, and peanut oil and fatty proteins like bacon. Avoid artificial sweeteners like Splenda and dextrose. Some higher sugar fruits are good for a pre-workout snack, but other then that they should be avoided unless they have high fiber content. Some examples of high sugar fruits are grapes, bananas, and oranges. One high sugar/high fiber fruit is mango. Hope this answers your question.
