What's the deal with cleanses and detoxing?
So I keep hearing people talking about cleanses and detoxing and how certain drinks/foods/etc can help flush toxins and so on. But I've never seen any info about these that was backed up with research or credible sources... I've always figured having a well-functioning liver and spleen and drinking lots of water, eating healthy, etc were pretty much what I needed for this purpose. I'm not trying to put down those of you who use these, I'm just honestly curious and willing to admit that I don't know - can anyone point me to some good, reputable resources about these that talk about how and why they work (or don't), sources that back up their claims with research? The only stuff I've ever seen on it sounded really fad-ish and didn't have any visible scientific basis, but that could very well be just that I'm not reading the right stuff.
