Lovell Canyon Trail opened in 2008. It is a 6 mile moderate hiking and equestrian trail, with two optional loops in a figure 8 pattern to bring the total hike to 8 miles. Elevation gain/loss is +/- 800 feet over rolling terrain on a well maintained trail. Sections of the trail are shaded all day, but the loops are in open country with little or no shade. Your return is via the trail you came in on.
The trail head is reached by driving west from Las Vegas towards Pahrump. After going over the Mt. Potosi pass, you will drop for about three miles, to make a right turn on Lovell Canyon Road. Drive this road for several miles to a dirt turnoff at the start of a private drive. Turn left and proceed a quarter mile to the trail head.
There are no services available past Mt. Potosi until Pahrump, and there are no restroom facilities at the trail head.
Lovell Canyon Trails are brand new, and are in an area that is ripe for further trail expansion. The level of impact will determine if more trails are built.
There is already damage on the trails from off trail exploration. Please stay on the marked trails, and pack out what you pack in. The use of wag-bags is highly encouraged as you are in a wildlife area with natural springs. The water in the springs should NOT be considered safe to drink without proper water treatment - filters AND chemicals.
Take only pictures, and leave only footprints. Enjoy!
