About Me

sep 2011- working to strengthen my core which hopefully also helps my semi-cranky knee find a happy place. stretch goal of washboard abs but if i don't quite get there, it's ok, the journey will be fun nonetheless. jan 2012- at this point, my body probably appears more fit than it is, so there is room for improvement on the cardio side. abs are showing some definition though and the knee has felt stronger.  definitely on the right path! feb 2012- finding myself not as disciplined as previous months.  knee has also been a bit cranky.  arms and shoulders are showing definition now but shoulders are a bit sore when i lift them laterally. apr 2012- still managing a few brief workouts here and there; this app really helps!  keep up motivation and find new ones even though the knee needs oil. may 2012- found out why the knee's been barking for so long... meniscus...  doh!  Still, doing a pretty good job sticking with this and experiencing good weight gain, though could always use more motivation on those tough days june 2012- still experiencing good weight gain and have varied the exercises beyond planks and pushups.  now that my abs are showing definition, i never knew how much i'd have to work at it to keep them from rounding.  no one mentions that when you start!  it seems arms don't require as much attention to stay in good form.  my diet could improve yet i've gained mostly good weight and receive comments from people i have not seen in awhile.  that's not the reason for being here but I'll admit it is motivating. sep 2012- When I first started elbow planks in Autumn 2011, I could not do one minute without collapsing to the floor.  Recently, I did four minutes!  A year ago, when I decided to again focus on respecting my body, it took me three sets to do 50 total pushups.  Now I can do that amount in one go.  If you told me a year ago i could do a 4-minute plank and 50+ pushups, I would have called you crazy! My point is, if it's a challenge, and you want to achieve your goal, you can do it. oct 2012- It is amazing how one month can change things, for better and for worse.  my knee feels like @$%& and my motivation is being challenged.  I've been able to make good use of the pool, but I better turn it around as the weather changes. nov 2012- It has been two months or so now since I've struggled with motivation and making time to get sweaty.  That also coincides with not having easy pool access.  My right knee is also ever so slightly cranky.  Lesson learned: don't go too long between workouts, because they are so much harder when you try to get back into it.  I'm fighting through that now, and I plan to get back to where I was. feb 2013- Maybe it was winter blues or just life's challenges that paved the way for my motivation issues, but thanks to several people here and a few friends, I've recently felt somewhat energized to be more consistent.  Abs are both soft yet defined, shoulders are crying out for the pool, left knee is cranky and right knee is not bad.  Think positive! apr 2013- I'm quite impressed with the work of many people here.  Seeing all the great progress and results of others gives me a kick to make time for a few minutes here and there.  Life has thrown a few massive curveballs recently, yet it almost always feels good to do a workout, even a quickie.  I notice my right knee has not bothered me recently; left knee, well... it has felt worse before.  Stay consistent!  It feels good and it's very hard to regain what you had after time away. jun 2013- i believe the recent use of the pool has helped me look toned and lowered my already low bmi. I think cardio will need to be my next focus as well as lower body core work. Squats and jump rope will be in vogue if my knee puts up with them and maybe more bike or longer workouts, too. aug 2013- 15/31 days sep 2013- Work has sapped me of my energy to be consistent, so I am now tracking how many days I reach at least 15 minutes. Left knee feels as good as it has in a few years and right knee is not really cranky, so those are big positives. 7/28 days was likely my workout worst month in 2 years. oct 2013- 5/31... not the right trend! nov-dec 2013- 7/30. The Tasmanian Devils are growing up quickly! 10/31 for Dec jan 2014- started jan as if i had made a resolution... then work got in the way... 8/31 feb-mar 2014- 6/28 and 8/31 days apr 2014- 6/30 days. not going to reach goals at this rate. on bright side, knees are not too cranky may-dec 2014- 41/245 with 10 in May and a goose egg in Sept. I can't remember what happened then. However, June/July made 28 straight days with at least 100 pushups as part of the bet. 2015- by month: 7,5,2,0!,4,4,5,4,4,4,6,11 = 56/365 vs 69 in 2014. That's a steady decline for a few years now, but December was the best month since Aug '13 and some areas are stronger than they were years ago. I am determined to make 2016 greater than 2014. Jan/Feb 2016- a 5 and a 4 won't get it done! Mar-Sep 2016- 2, 2, 5, 2, 2, 8, 4 = 34 for 9 months. Goal was to get to 70. What are we made of? Oct and Nov 2016- 8 , 5 = 47 with big left knee issue. Dec 2016- 8, making 55 for the year, one shy of 2015. Jan-Apr 2017- 6, 1, 5, 2 with tough scoring. Head injury in May 2017.
