About Me

I am an ACSM certified personal trainer and ACE certified Health Coach. My training background of twelve years has been at the YMCA, Jewish Community Center, park districts and private clubs. I have successfully guided my clients to lifestyle changes resulting in weight loss and increased muscle tone with Health Coaching and Strength Training. An RRCA certified running coach, I train athletes for distance running. I have coached junior high cross country and I have trained many individuals for races from 5K to marathon distance. In addition, I have trained with Lee Saxby on barefoot running technique. My running career began at age 40. I have run 45 marathons in 35 states. I have qualified for the Boston Marathon several times and completed it four times. My goal is to finish a marathon in each of the 50 states.

Walk vs Run? Brisk walking is defined as 4.0 mph or 15 minutes/mile. Running typically begins at 5.0 mph with speeds in between reflecting individual differences. Are you new to exercise? Or maybe you're trying a new sport? Keep in mind the first 10 minutes of cardiovascular exercise is the hardest. Your heart rate is increasing during this time. Once you reach steady state you will feel better and be able to continue with less effort.

Movement: an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed. It's what we do when we exercise, move our bodies. This week I'm moving my home! Yes, I am relocating to another state. My midwestern roots will be anchoring down south. A big change but I can and will do it. You too can make the change. Get up and move, one step at at time.

I'm 140 5"7 I'm just wanting to get in better shape and tone . I did Julia Michaels last summer and lost too much weight got too small I was eating really healthy maybe not eating enough . So I quit working out I need to be able to build muscle and not just become really skinny I want someone to help guide me with the right nutrition and not to lose all my muscles but to gain muscle I want to do measurements on my body and be precise about this So mainly my core my arms my legs...

Mindfulness. Many of us find ourselves with busy schedules and little time to prepare meals. But the key to successful exercise is not only dependent on what you do but also how you fuel. So make mindful choices when you are hungry. Plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, beans and don't forget the water. Steer clear of added sugars, fats and artificial ingredients. You're body will thank you with better performance when you hit the gym.

If you're in an area where the thermometer has taken a nose dive, you may be finding it difficult to get your water intake. Trying drinking hot water instead of cold! Heat it up, throw in a slice of citrus and sip away.

Rest is an integral part of a training program It can be rest between sets, rest after a challenging event or season, periodization training or rest to heal an injury. When you are resting, your body heals and repairs muscle fibers to make you stronger and more fit. So, take a break today and enjoy some rest!

Be sure to do some stretching after this and every run. Calves, quads, hamstrings, hip flexors, lower back and shoulders.

For all of you that ran a marathon this month, Congratulations! Now it's time to enjoy a little R & R for a week or two. To keep your base, you don't want to take more than two weeks off. Get back to a comfortable training schedule that allows you to maintain your endurance through the winter months. Your dedication now will make you stronger in the spring.
