Diet & Nutrition / Carbohydrate meal replacement

Cauliflower, cauliflower and more cauliflower lol...and some turnip. Turnip is a great low carb replacement for potatoes. And take some cauliflower, grate up one cup in a cheese grater. Place it in a microwave safe bowl and nuke for 3-4 minute. Very similar taste and consistency to rice with very few carbs. Haven't found a replacement for pasta yet.

Welcome Wagon / Sit ups .. push ups.. worked?

Push ups, none. Push ups is all upper body. Planks are the best thing for tightening the core, along with sit-ups and crunches.
19 Sep
Hmm thanks I'll
19 Sep
Push ups ARE planks but you're just pushing up and down! you get tired faster so you work the arms more than the core but still, you get both

Health Conditions / Terry Fox Run

My grandfather, a former police Sargent and volunteer firefighter, was a prostate cancer survivor and eventually passed away from colon cancer. Tomorrow morning, in his memory, I will be running in the Terry Fox Run to support research for a cure. Just curious if anyone else out there has ever ran for a friend or family member.

Motivation & Support / How do other moms make time for working out?

Not a mom, but a dad of two (4 and 2). Defiantly a hard thing to pull off. Luckily I have an hour lunch break at work. I bring a small meal and a change of clothes so I can eat fast and go for a nice jog. Other then that I might do some high energy exercises on the weekend during nap time, and some low impact routines during the week after supper. I try to incorporate the kids with this, they get a laugh out of it. My 4 year old mirrors my exercises and I use my 2 year old as extra weight for curls, squats and crunches. She's a fit of giggles by the time we're done!

Weight Loss / Loosing inches not weight.....

The reason you're losing inches and not weight is because you're gaining muscle density through your walks. Don't worry. It's completely normal, and a good thing! While you're losing fat you're gaining muscles at the same time, so it appears like you're not making any progress. But those muscles burn fat even faster. To drop numbers on the scale a little faster you'll need to add a couple exercises to your walking plan. Just 5 minutes a day to focus on building muscles in any areas where you feel some extra weight can come off, and those muscles will do all the work for you. But don't feel discouraged! The inches is where it really counts!

Motivation & Support / Is it possible to lose 35 pounds in 4 months ?

I've lost 30 lbs in the past 3 months. I simply walk and/or jog for 30 minutes 5 days a week,  work on some ab exercises on the weekends to build some fat burning muscles, and counted my calorie and carb intake with MyFitnessPal app. Carb cycling really sped things up for me too! Google Chris Powell for some diet tips and recipes on low carbs. 35 is a very obtainable number! Good luck!

Diet & Nutrition / Sliming foods and tablets?

Don't try tablets. Don't do pills. Don't buy into the magic "super" foods...regardless of what Dr. Oz says. There's no replacement for smart eating, exercise and brute hard work. It may not come as fast as you want. But you'll get there. And you'll be all the better for doing it on your own.
25 Aug
I agree with that comment. Don't do pills or stuff like that. Best way to be skinny and really healthy is to eat clean, like more fruit, veggies, nuts, and water. Work out at least 3 times a week or 5 times. If you want to lose stomach buldgy-Ness, drink alot of water and eat 3-5 meals a day in smaller portions. That should speed up your metabolism. Drink green tea and work out in the morning for 30 minutes before eating breakfast. And lastly don't eat soup. I heard that it doesn't help you lose weight at all. :-)

Prune juice. Drink half a bottle (really high in sugar and carbs)...then call in sick. Cause after half a bottle of prune juice you're gonna need a lot of alone time! Lol

Welcome Wagon / New member...got questions

I've been "lite" dieting (ie less junk food and pop, more veggies and water) plus walking everyday for a little over a year. Serious dieting and jogging every day for the last 3 months. And in the last 3 months I've lost 30lbs...75lbs over the whole year.

Fab 40 Somethings / Woman 46.AM I WASTING MY TIME

WebMD ...should be WebBS. It's never too late for anyone. Hell, there are senior body building competitions out there. If we focused on peak hormone levels, and peak estrogen and testosterone levels, then we ALL should've given up after 19 lol. Don't be discouraged! The best time to make your life better is right now!

Weight Loss / Favorite healthy meal?!

Pizza! Lol With homemade tomato sauce, instead of sugar filled store bought. Turkey sausage instead of salty pepperoni. And cauliflower crust instead of carby pizza dough.

Women's Locker Room / Slim waist

That's the thing about comparisons. It's great to have someone who inspires and motivates you. But comparisons lead to nothing but disappointment. Only because two people were never meant to be exactly the same. It's a road that'll never end, and one that'll lead to obsession. It's a place that my wife was unfortunately stuck in for a long time. But she was lucky enough to get out of it, and she's put on some healthy weight and now she's the most beautiful woman I know. But things could've headed towards much scarier direction had she not changed her train of thought. Just make sure it's not the way you're heading! I know this is a heavy conversation for someone you've never met lol but this is supposed to be a place for positive advice and encouragement!

Thankyou Eric you're advice means SO much to me and I will take everything you've said and put it in mind. Thankyou very very much. And I'm so happy about your wife, I hope ill be able to head down a good path as well:)

Women's Locker Room / Slim waist

Someone your size ( and your size is very very tiny!) shouldn't be trying to lose any more weight. There's nothing to you. I know you might not see it that way. And if anyone tells you you're big tell them to cram it where the sun don't shine! You're a very thin person! You don't need to lose any more weight! Trust me! Don't focus on your faults. Take pride in your attributes!
11 Aug
Aww Eric thankyou! Ill try! It's sometimes hard cause I constantly compare myself but thankyou:)

Sports Injuries & Prevention / Trouble with hands, fingers and wrists.

If you're having pains from your wrists up to your fingertips, especially if it wakes you up at night, you might want to speak to your family doctor about carpal tunnel syndrome. A sure sign is if you tap the centre of your wrists for 10 seconds and it makes your fingertips fall asleep. My wife is a sufferer. Her left hand was so bad she needed corrective surgery.
11 Aug
I was yhinking the same, at the beginning I felt pain in my wrist, so I stopped my routine, 15 days later I did facing dog again and I started to feel my fingerd asleep but then it dissapear, I started to do streches for my hand, arms and shoulders, and I feel improvment, I did that you said and my fingers didnt fell to asleep. Im thinking I will give to myself some time to recover 15 days maximum, if I dont get better I will go to the doctor.

Diet & Nutrition / Too many carbs???

Too many carbs is a big factor. I recently started "carb cycling" (google Chris Powell for more), which is a low carb diet and the weight is melting off me. I haven't found a replacement for noodles, but cauliflower is my go to now to replace rice and potatoes. I cut it up in chunks and roast it with a pinch of spices like taters. Boil it and purée it with some cream cheese and a little garlic, instead of mashed potatoes. Or throw it through a cheese grater, grate a cup of it and microwave it, as is, in a Pyrex bowl for 2 minutes. A very similar consistency to rice that I love to throw into my meals. I also make this cauliflower "rice" and mix it with a cup of grated low fat cheese and 1 egg, and bake it in a pancake shape at 350 for 20 minutes. Yummy replacement to bread for an open faced sandwich, or also use it as the crust for a kick-a mini veggie pizza!

Oh that all sounds good!! Thanks :)
