Workouts and Programs / Free weights vs weight machines

I like machines. I do free weights to break up the monotony occasionally. I prefer machines because I can change the weight quicker. Also I see progress in the machines that I don't often see in the free weights. I feel like I get stuck on 25lbs dumbells everytime because making the jump to 30lbs dumbells is too much for me to get any reps in,  but with a machine and the ability to add 1.5lbs helps me to climb up to heavier weight.

Ask the Pros / Creatine

What is it? What does it do? Can I benefit from it? What form of creatine is best? Pills or mixes? Nitrate or Monohydrate? I workout 5 times a week. 60 minutes of weight training and 30 minutes of cardio per day. I like energy boosts. Coffee is fun but makes my stomach unhappy. Tried preworkouts from a friend but never got the tingling or sensory experience or pumped feeling... Am I using it wrong? Want to buy some but my own research leaves me with a lot of questions yet... I also drink a protien shake before workout and after then another in a couple hours. 20g protien per serving.

Body Building / What do you do?

I just got hit with bronchitis and as much as I wanted to keep up the routine, my body wasn't having it. I've changed my mind on the subject of working out while sick, because before I would tell people to just hit the gym but now I know you gotta listen to your body. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon . đŸ˜ș

18 Mar
Be careful with bronchitis I have chronic bronchitis and asthma but I still work out colds aren't such a huge deal but do whatever your body tells you.

Motivation & Support / Frustrated

Happened to me before. It is a huge bummer, I know. I was a couple weeks into the PX90 program and got hit with the flu. Long story short, I got over the flu and got back on routine. You will too. Take care and best wishes.

Help / Shoes or no shoes

I always wear shoes just because I feel like they give me more stability and grip. Also I think any padding will lessen the impact so if you want less impact, wear shoes. Someone will disagree with me on that I'm sure but it's what padding and cushioning in shoes is made for.

Welcome Wagon / Took a week off.

I took a week off. From the gym. Still did exercises out of habit but nothing hardcore. My muscles feel great. My muscles are thicker and dense. Now I see veins popping thru. When I flex the muscle shows ripples. Not shredded but this is momentous in my journey. I never thought I could look like this. I remember looking at my cousin's shoulders and just wishing I could have delts. My chest is lagging behind but still. After walking around with moobs most of my life, to see my pecs flatten and fan out is unreal. My first real week off after 7 months of hard work. Anybody else ever tried this? I know we are borderline obessed with working out consistently but dang... kind of weird to see this happen. Was kind of bummed for missing a week but now I can't wait to get back in and see if this new size and growth equals strength and power. My appetite also leveled out. When I'm lifting, I eat. No, I mean I EAT! This past week I've been getting full pretty quickly. Was worried about not feeding the guns but looks like they've take care of themselves. Any thoughts?

Welcome Wagon / Hating?

Hahaha! You're awesome dude! It's completely normal in my opinion. I was strictly a bicycle guy for the longest. It was my transportation my recreation my occupation. I'd scoff at runners because I thought Oh they're just tryna be seen out here. Egotistical bastards. I'd see them running in extreme temps and think they were just punishing themselves because they wanted to brag about running when others wouldn't dare! LOL!   Now I run and I'm always trying to push myself for ME. To smash my own goals. I don't even think of anyone else when I run. Just me and my pace. Initially I compared myself to other runners but at some point I stopped hating and starting wanting to have the kind of runs they were having. Good luck to you in your fitness goals

Suggestions & Ideas / I wish I could add the past!

Yeah. I've worked out then the app loses my workout before I can save it, so I'll  just run the workout again on my phone. You know you did it and that's what counts but I like to see my efforts recorded. Once I did that on the bus and forgot. I was sitting in a crowded area and my phone really loudly says "30 seconds left". Everybody jerked their heads up and looked around nervously. Hahaha

This one was funny! LOL! But have you tried uploading it? Sometimes it is saved on your device, Matt explained how to upload it :)

Motivation & Support / What do you do when you have a bad day

I just trudge through it. F**k it. Go to sleep at the end of the day and look forward to tomorrow. Not much can get me out of a funk but time. Takes about a day or two to start feeling like I can feel good again. Having a pretty crap day today.

Motivation & Support / its awkward!

Had the same problem. Just had to keep telling myself "This my gym. I pay for my membership. I'm here to work. Not to socialize." I wanted so badly to hide but I got over it and the other person got the hint and moved on to someone else probably. Just stay focused. Your actions will speak louder than words and when they see that you are on your business and not interested in their business it will pass. But yeah I've sat outside the gym a few times having to psych myself up to just go in and be me. Good luck.

Motivation & Support / Started a weight loss challenge

Hi. Just started a local weight loss challenge. It'd be nice to have some skimbler's support. The contest is 60 days long. I got weighed and measured today. 252lbs 6'2" 14in biceps 42in waist 23in thighs 46in chest. Check in are on Sundays. Looking for some chat buddies to talk about all the aspects of body transformation. Food. Hydration. Supplements. Exercises. Etc.
Also, thinking about approaching a couple people at my gym who are regulars and extremely fit for some help, so I could use some coaching on approaching because I know we can all be on high alert when approached at the gym. Creepers abound.

01 Feb
When approaching at the gym, I find it easiest if you ask for a spot to break the ice or if someone is doing something you've never done/seen before. Ask them questions about the exercise and ask them if they wouldn't mind showing you how to get started doing the new exercise!! Good luck with your challenge!

Hodge-Podge / D-Bags

Yeah. Too bad there isn't a way to block certain d-bags like Facebook. Definitely see a few guys who like to trample all over other's comments/suggestions because they think they are fitness gurus. The "Holier-than-thou" d-bags are the worst. I don't care that they post pics of their bodies all the time because we can all get there but to make someone feel like they're stupid for trying to support/motivate another skimbler  is wiggity wiggity whack.

Help / Skipped Workout

Yes! It sucks! Sometimes I can't get a signal in the gym and it "saves" the workout for later upload but when I come back to the app, it's gone. Frustrating

Ask the Pros / Pushups help

I did pushup on my knees to start. 5 sets of 10. I was embarrassed at first because "girly pushups", but you gotta start somewhere. 30 seconds  rest between sets. Do other chest exercises with weights and you'll be doing full pushup soon enough. Just do your best to maintain good form.

Workouts and Programs / Culking: bulking and cutting at the same time.

It's what works for me. I want cut fat but also build a muscular frame. I thought about going strictly weight training but I was already 280lbs and the weight was literally holding me down, so I didn't want to bulk up. I didn't know culking was a thing when I started walking then running on my return to exercise. I wanted to burn fat so cardio was my answer but then I started getting shin splints. So I dabbled in the weight room. Found out that adding lean muscle can help you burn fat quicker. So put together a basic 50/50 cardio/strength training routine. Followed that and made refinements based on plateaus and new goals. 7 months later I've dropped body fat percentage by 10% and now have real shoulders, arms, back, and chest. You can see the workouts  I do on my profile. Last thing... I've seen people in my gym drop twice as much weight or build crazy mass in the same time because they focus on one type of exercise or the other. I've been discouraged a few times because I don't see those drastic changes even though I go hard every time in the gym. Just saying it's a more gradual process because I'm not putting every thing into either fat burn or muscle build. My efforts are spread over the two different  types of exercise so the change is not as easily visible like body builders or runners.

Workouts and Programs / Ab Fondation III

Just finished the program and it was... aight. I liked the variety but when it came down to it; all crunches or planks. Variations that may or may not target specific areas of a small group of muscles. That's just my opinion. You try it and finish it before you try blast me. There were a few times when I felt like complicated moves were unnecessary and I couldn't feel any difference in the movement or muscle or effort from say the standard crunch or plank. I would've liked a more consistent workout. I like balance and symmetry in my workouts as well so doing an exercise only once and never revisiting it made me obsess a little. I do feel stronger. My core is tight as a barrel. Definite improvement in ability. The last exercise of the program is max rep crunches. I surprised myself. Also 2 minutes planks were unreal to me but now holding a 1.5 minutes is hard but doable. 2 minutes plank is now on the goal list. I would recommend this workout but you're not gonna get a 6 pack in 3 weeks so do go in thinking that. Push yourself to keep up. Don't slack. You come out the other end with a stronger core. Also study the workouts before you start it. It's easy to get lost on the mix of styles and variations. Plus you lose a few reps if you don't know what is next and have to stop to look. One time I was like wtf? Crunch what? Good luck.

Body Building / Setting amount of reps instead of time.

In Create A Workout I set the time it takes to complete 4 sets plus rest between. If I finish before the time is up, I just fast forward to the next exercise. I was turned off by that initially but you'll get used to it. I actually like it better because I would screw around, chat, wander off between sets but now I'm focused and crank out until the exercise is complete. Then I walk around and bs... hahaha

Weight Loss / Anyone try...

I've tried ketones. Basically it's just made everything smell like raspberries all day. I lost weight but the weight lost has been pretty consistent even without ketones.  1 month I used ketones. Don't think I'll ever use it again. I think exercise is enough but I like to try different supplements urr now and then. Good luck.

12 Jan
I'm at a plateau. I've tried everything. Eating healthy and exercizing. Reduced calorie intake to no more than 800 a day. Ephedrine. Cinnamon. Nothing is working. I drink 64-96 oz of water a day.
12 Jan
Have you changed your workout? I have to change it up urr now and then. Try go solid on regimen for 8 weeks then I start researching for new routine. I usually can tell when my current workouts are getting too easy. Right around 2 months or so.
12 Jan
I try different workouts all the time! Just stuck
12 Jan
Aww that sucks. Personal trainers at your gym? Maybe one session create a custom exercise plan? $45 or so. Better spent on that than another supplement that may or not work. If I'm plateau'd it's because my workout is not working for me. Never my supplements or diet because those are pretty consistent.
12 Jan
No time or extra money for that. I have two kids.

I like it enough to give it another month after my 7 day free trial expired today. I like the social aspect and that it isn't linked to FB. I also like the buffet style workout creator. Hahaha "buffet"....

Health Conditions / Working out while being Sick

Maybe it does stress the metabolism but ive only known sweating as a healing process. Detoxifying. Relaxing. Calming. I dont recommend going into a 200 degree sauna if you already dont feel good but 170 for 5 minutes than a break before going back in if needed shouldnt cause more harm.

11 Jan
We've different opinions here: your buddy is struggling really hard with the sickness and does definitely not need additional stress - not through the heat itself but the change between warm and cold. Detoxication through sweating is nonsense: all you lose is water (which the body needs esp. when ill) and minerals. Sweating (when being sick) itself is not the healing process, it's just that your body is fighting the virus, burns energy while doing and therefore you sweat. You should keep your body warm when sick as heat supports the inner processes of healing - but you should definitely...
