Cooking / Confused About healthy food choices and Healthy alternatives to junk food and candys

Put simply anything ready made or processed is unlikely to be healthy. That said there are healthier options or versions.
I toss slices of new potatoes in a little oil, layer on a baking tray and bake in the oven. These are my chips.
I make my own 'ready meals' including lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie, bean stew... and my own burgers, I marinate chicken breasts and freeze in portions. These are healthy versions of my comfort foods that are really quick to cook.
When shopping I buy ingredients - fruit, veg, meat.... anything with more than about five ingredients, or something I can't pronounce I don't purchase.
Hope that helps, good luck x

Health Conditions / Keratosis Pilaris

I regularly use salt/sugar scrub and moisturise. It has improved. Apparently products containing glycolic acid work well, but my skin is too sensitive and allergic.

Health Conditions / 'B complex' question

No harm trying it as b vits are water soluble,  you pee out what you don't need.
In theory if you are eating a good variety of nutritious foods you shouldn't need supplements.

Health Conditions / Ways to get rid of allergies

I have unusual skin allergies (both water and a quick increase in temp cause severe urticaria, red blotches and intense itching). I take meds from doctor which help but don't clear them.
My advice is to get a diary, list everything you eat and the intensity of your symptoms. Quite often paterns emerge.
What are your allergies? Maybe I can help?

stuffy nose

A stuffy nose is usually due to an external allergen, eg pets, dust, perfume etc. Best thing is to see if anything has changed recently or keep a diary of symptom severity. If its worse after a bath, it could be a bath product. .... Good luck!

20 Somethings / How often do you work out?

I go to the gym mon, tue and thurs for approx 1hr. On Monday I jog there (1.5 miles).

Health Conditions / SVT and exercise

Im taking beta blockers for a completely different reason. It hasn't affected my work outs, I still go to the gym 3-4times each week and am still upping the intensity.
What I do find is they give me vivid dreams, sometimes nightmares. Also the occasional drop in blood pressure leaves me light headed.
I'd prefer not to take meds but needs must. Be healthy and do what's right for you x

Diet & Nutrition / Help with healthy foods to eat...

Try brown pasta or rice, they taste same as white.
Have you tried passata (sieved tomatoes) add a teaspoon of sugar to cut the acidity?
Try using a blender or food processor,  use these to disguise veg.
Homemade soups with lentil base are super filling, use any veg you can. Maybe sweet vegg like butternut squash.
Try one new food each day or week.  Our tastes mature with us. I refused to eat green veg as a child,  now broccoli is my favourite!
Good luck x

Try juicing with fruits and some veggies "spinach or lettuce" the fruit will hide the taste u don't like. Just add yogurt for a smoothie taste if u like. That way you still get what u need out of the healthy foods without having to actually eat them. Then have the foods u like in moderation. :-) good luck!

Weight Loss / I joined a gym.. Now what?

See if they offer a free personal trainer session,  that would give you the opportunity to talk ti someone about your goals.
I joined 18months ago, had an induction where they show you basics, and settings eg seat adjustments.
To slim down try cardio: treadmill, cross trainer etc. Work through intervals.  Try things until you find something you like. Rotate or change things regularly to keep your body guessing.
Don't be afraid of weights, girls don't bulk. Start low until you learn form then increase.
Good luck and have fun 😊

Motivation & Support / Falling boobs

Definitely get measured and buy a decent sports bra. When being measured/fitted ask about styles, I was recommended a balcony as I'd lost weight from the top of my boobs.

Motivation & Support / Green Tea?

Use slightly cooled water, not boiling water, and don't over brew. That reduces bitterness.
I buy sencha green tea, its just from the tips of the leaves (or something) and its super smooth,  delicious!

Diet & Nutrition / The time, effort, and expense to eat healthy

Are you cooking for one or a group/family?
I batch cook, buy meat and veg etc on offer accordingly. I make lasagne, tomato chicken, pasta bake, cottage pie, hotpot....the options are endless. I then put in tupperware or disposable foils for oven or microwave.
Its quick to chop a load of salad once a week and store in separate containers. Then toss a bit of each together as a side or lunch.
Use leftovers for soup to save wastage, just add stock and lentils/beans and blitz before serving.
Easy and cheap 😊

Batch cook sounds a lot easier than cooking every single night.

Motivation & Support / Scared to go to the gym and be judged!

I was the same,  had my induction and booked a personal trainer session for the next week.
I went twice on my own to get a feel for what I liked cardio wise, then told the trainer. They devise a plan and its so easy to follow and they target whatever you want.
Personal trainer sessions are included in my fee up to once every 6-8weeks.
Hooe you build the courage,  I did and lost 4 dress sizes and kept the weight off. Good luck x

Weight Loss / Fav food for healthy lifestyle ???

If you're just trying to be healthy aim for whole foods, as unprocessed as possible. Aim to make meals from scratch, it may be easier to make in bulk and freeze or chill in portions. Base meals around protein,  good carbs and healthy fats. Get plenty of veg, some fruit and aim to enjoy food it fuels us.
Ps my fave foods are broccoli,  salmon and pineapple 😊

Health Conditions / Wisdom teeth

It depends how they were taken out etc. I had an emergency extraction,  numbed then pulled,  was told to avoid exercise for  2days. If they were impacted its a longer recovery. Hope its not too painful x

Motivation & Support / Tierdness...

Which antidepressant and when do you take it? I'm a pharmacist so know my meds. If its not that then there are other things to look at eg sleep hygeine/routine,  time you exercise and eat etc
If in doubt pop to a pharmacy or speak to your doctor
Good luck

Motivation & Support / Awkward

Don't be intimidated,  most people will be impressed to see a girl working with weights. And besides you are working out for you,  no one else's opinion matters. If you really struggle reward yourself for completing your routine,  eg bubble bath instead of a quick shower.

Also, what do you think when you see people working weights? Surely its all positive!

Pregnancy & Fit Moms / Today is Day 1

Ask one of the trainers to help, some gyms charge and some are free (at least for a trial). I see a lovely lady at my gym she helps me mix things up every month or two to keep it interesting and she knows how to target my worst spots. So worth it, I lost around 15kg and kept it off.
Well done for making a start,  good luck for the future x

Teen Zone / Just starting to work again.

I put a little motivational phrase on my fridge, you could put it on your xbox...
How will this choice affect your goal?
Makes me think rather than acting mindlessly. Good luck x

Diet & Nutrition / Late night after work meals?!

I use my days off to batch cook. Homemade lasagne, hotpot, pasta bake, chicken in tomato sauce.... All with extra veg and fresh ingredients. I freeze them down in individual foils ready to eat. I tend to choose in the morning and leave to defrost,  pop in the oven whilst I shower, quick salad and serve.
Also prepare homemade burgers,  freeze raw and they take minutes on a griddle from chilled or frozen.
Good luck.

Motivation & Support / Motivational Inspiration
