Motivation & Support / Support challenge

45 minutes of working out with legs that are... well there's no way to describe it, I've NEVER felt anything like this before. Note to self: don't push it up to 100 calf raises after not having worked calves for like five years, mkay. Still, I killed my arms and abs today boxing. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Challenges / Team for walking and running

Ugh I suck at this team thing, lol. I'm thinking for next week's challenge I'm gonna choose a few different workouts and those will be the only one's that count. Meaning if you want to participate in the particular challenge you need to do just those workouts. This got a bit complicated, me thinks!

Motivation & Support / Who's coming?

In my opinion rolling out of bed and doing yoga with completely unmanageable legs due to yesterday's calf raises plus a quite serious hangover counts as in. :) The rest of the day I've worked on restoring my water balance so I'm gonna be able to go all in tomorrow. πŸ’ͺ

Challenges / Push ups record

I did 18 the other day, five 30 sec sets, 10 sec rests. A month ago I couldn't do even one. Now I need to focus on form, it's quite sloppy.

Diet & Nutrition / Eating Dissorders

I applaud you for being so strong and choosing to talk openly about this! Heck, I've got so many tears in my eyes right now I can't see what I'm writing.

Big hugs to you, you're on the right track already and being open and honest will help you even more. πŸ’ͺ

Motivation & Support / Support challenge

I created my own disaster today by becoming so caught up in my work that I forgot to eat. When I finally could manage to let go of the computer, it was 7 pm and I hadn't had anything to eat but a couple of snacks since breakfast at 7.30 am.

I could go on about how I didn't have time to work out today, but the truth is I didn't make time. I let my work take the best of me instead of creating a healthy balance between work and free time. I'm hoping I won't have to pay for this tomorrow and the days after.

Now for the support part: even though I'm completely drained, I'm not going to skip my new healthy routine of a short evening yoga session!

01 Apr
It happens. No biggie. You've recognized the blip and step right over it! :)
01 Apr
You've got this! It's almost 1pm for me right now and the most I've done is walk in the wind after the mail. Bad headache and no interest in food for lunch.

Challenges / Team for walking and running

Hey guys, I'm sorry I haven't added any more workouts to the challenge yet! I've been working so much for the past few days and I apparently don't get any email notifications from Skimble anymore.

I promise I'll go on the computer first thing tomorrow morning and fix it! Now it's 7 pm and I've forgotten to eat today because of work. 😞 So freaking tired. Completely thrown off my workout schedule too, gaah.

01 Apr
It's ok Anna. I did a hard interval run today, 40min until I nearly puked lol

Motivation & Support / Positive thinking

The other day I read about a method called Happy heart. The technique is to repeat positive affirmations and words to yourself as soon as you find yourself in a negative train of thought. This might sound very new agey, but there's actual science behind it. Our brains forms neurological patterns and trails when we think. How we behave and react to our thoughts and experiences forms our brains. The neurological patterns are formed not only by what we experience in our lives but by how we react to these experiences.

The human brain is extremely plastic which means it's possible to change our pattern of thought. This is how cognitive therapy works and also why mindfulness is widely accepted by the medical community today, as a treatment for eg stress, chronic pain and OCD. These methods work by either consciously changing your pattern of thought or stopping yourself from thinking negative thoughts, thus breaking the negative neurological patterns and/or forming new, positive ones.

Positive thinking is not something you achieve in a day or two. The happy heart method recommends repeating positive words for three minutes every time you find yourself thinking negatively. After a few months you will find yourself having less negative thoughts. Mindfulness needs to be practiced consequently and daily, both by exercises in meditation and relaxation and everyday exercises in being fully present and experiencing the now as opposed to thinking about the past or the future.

Have you chosen to use any of these methods, or do you find yourself using them without knowing they are methods developed to promote a positive attitude towards life?

This. 1,000,000,000 times, THIS.

Motivation & Support / Obstacles

The feeling that I'm not going to make it through. That I'm weak and I won't be able to do it. It's weird, since I really don't have any confidence issues otherwise. It's just that brief moment of fear of not finding myself worthy, right before I start.

Teen Zone / Making time to workout

When my dad worked full-time and went to the University in the evenings studying to become an engineer I asked him how does he manage to have time for everything. He answered "the more you do, the more time you have". And it's true.

30 Mar
I say wisely while lying on the sofa all evening. Lol. When will the day when I actually practice what I preach come?

Challenges / Team for walking and running

Kimberly, Samantha and Karen, I've sent invites to you, and Brian, your request is accepted! All genders are welcome, of course.

Please comment on the team board to let me know what walking workouts you use so I can add them to the challenge! The first challenge is an easy one: go for two walks this week.

I honestly didn't think of the fact that people live where it's too hot, too cold or too many creeps to go outside. Treadmills are okay, but I'd like you to consider going for an outdoor walk now and then if it's possible. For myself, the challenge is not only to walk but also to get fresh air.

Workouts and Programs / Stretching sessions

So I've got my whole next week planned out, but I would like some suggestions on stretching sessions. I could create my own but I'm sure there are some great sessions created already! I'd like three separate sessions targeting upper body, lower body and core, preferably on a maximum of ten minutes. Any suggestions?

29 Mar
Stephs body stretch off my likes! It's 17 min or so but I love it.
29 Mar
Thanks, I'll check it out! I have my own full body stretch but it doesn't target every single muscle in the body.

Challenges / Team for walking and running

I created a team now and sent invitations to you ladies.

If anyone else wants to join, let me know. Teams are accessed through the Skimble website both on computer and handheld devices. You can do a request to join the team there or just ask here and I'll send you an invite.

Our first challenge will be going for a walk twice in the coming week. The challenge registers the team members' workouts automatically and only certain workouts are accepted for the challenge. You can find more info on the team board.

Come join!

29 Mar
Where's the team board? How I know where's my invite too? ( hoping I received one) πŸ˜„
29 Mar
You need to use the website for teams, it's not available in the app. Go to the website, look for the Teams page and there you should find it. I thought you'd receive an invite to your email but apparently not. I hope they make teams available in the app soon since it's a fun way to motivate each other.
29 Mar
Hi! I would love to join you ladies! I really need the motivation :)
29 Mar
Hi anna you can send me an invite also. Just came back indoors from playing some outdoor soccer. It was so much fun while burning calories.

Challenges / Team for walking and running

Would anyone be interested in joining a team for walking and running? The weekly challenges could be walking or running a certain amount of kilometres, walking or running a certain amount of times, et cetera. So far teams are only accessible through the website, not the app.

The challenges would start with baby steps like walking 5 km or three times in a week and so on. Maybe some challenges could be just for walking and others just for running. I REALLY need to get out of the house more before I turn into a vampire or something, but I don't have the motivation. I like walking and I love running but I just can't get off my butt and open the front door. Having a team could motivate me!

Let me know if you're interested!

27 Mar
Note: outdoor walking and running.
27 Mar

Diet & Nutrition / Hey skimblers! It's been awhile.. I have a Q

No its not enough and yes you have an eating disorder if you believe eating like that is healthy. It's like putting half a tank of gas in your car and think you can drive as far as with a full tank since you provided it with fuel.

Women should never eat less than 1200 calories a day, period.

Welcome Wagon / What do you appreciate about your body?

Couldn't agree more. The self-hatred and the distorted self-images some people have just makes me so sad. I firmly believe in learning to love and respect yourself, it will create wellbeing and an urge to take better care of yourself. If you don't love yourself now, you won't do it after losing weight either. Losing weight won't help you escape your state of mind.

I love that my body is strong and that I feel it could take me anywhere. I love the way it looks and feels. I love that it's soft and luscious and voluptuous but still has hard muscle underneath. I actually love more or less everything about it except that it doesn't fit into my skinny jeans anymore. And the chin hairs that started turning up a couple of years ago. I just can't love that. πŸ˜„

Weight Loss / Knees hurt after squats!

Go sloooowly. Check your form all the time. Where are your knees? In what direction are they pointing? In what angle are they? Your knees should be right above your ankles, pointing in the same direction as your toes and not falling in- or outwards. Stick your butt back and out and bend to as close to 90 degrees as possible in your knees. Having a chair behind you can help you see how low you should go. Squeeze your buttocks and hamstrings as tight as you can coming up. Start with doing just regular squats without any jumping or exploding up and down. It's much better doing five with excellent form than doing ten without paying attention to form.

25 Mar
Thanks for the advice Anna :) Will focus on my form in my next workout!
25 Mar
You're welcome! I have the same problem, old knee injuries that often flare up after leg workouts. I'm struggling with form myself so I know what it's like.
25 Mar
Aw I hope you get better soon!

Weight Loss / Standstill

In the beginning of February I did some changes to my diet (mainly cutting out sugar and increasing my calorie intake) and I saw some major changes in just a few weeks. Now I seem to have plateaued and haven't seen any significant changes for some time. The interesting thing is also that I was ill for almost two weeks in February. During that time I only did some shorter yoga sessions and took a couple of short walks and I did NOT eat well.

The only thing I've really changed is that I'm working out a lot harder now. In February I did 20-30 minutes of sweatbreaking activities in the morning every other day and something like 10-30 minutes of yoga in between. Now I do an hour of HIIT and weight training three times a week, yoga in between and one rest day. I now do my longer workout sessions in the afternoon since my energy doesn't last for a full hour of working out in the morning. I follow programs and don't do the same routine so my body is kept guessing.

I don't get this. Working out harder should reasonably give me better results, but it doesn't. I don't weigh myself so it's not a question of building muscle and losing fat. My measurements have been the same for three weeks now. My goals are losing centimeters and building muscle.

24 Mar
Take a week off, careful cause it's easy to get lazy after. I sometimes take a week or two off completely and I'm stronger and notice changes more rapidly after. Maybe something you might want to try. And there's no risk of injury ;)
24 Mar
A week off sounds horrible! I have an involuntary week off coming up in a couple of months (Sweden Rock Festival! Beer and fast food for six days and no working out!) so I think I'm gonna keep on struggling until then. But I do know from running that some time off actually can give better results, I've experienced it several times. Pah, injuries! Where do you get everything from! :P
24 Mar
Hahaha...I'm never letting that back thing go.
24 Mar
Luckily you learned from the beginning where my sense of humor ends. :D
24 Mar
That is called a deload week Google the benefits and see if it's something for you and focus on your carbs it'll take care of the energy problem as well, egg whites before a workout help too for its protein and amino acids content and a cup of coffee is great aswell. Give my iced green tea recipes a try as a sports drink I don't promise it'll taste good :p

Women's Locker Room / To ladies

Are you sure it's your ovaries? And are you ovulating now? I can get really sharp pains when I'm ovulating but they come and go so it doesn't happen every time. I feel my period cramps have gotten a bit worse since I started working out. It can have all kinds of impacts on your body.

23 Mar
No I'm not now. I'm not sure if it is ovaries, but it pain like this and in the same place, maybe tomorrow will be better : )
24 Mar
Just make sure to check it up if it continues! It can be endometriosis or a cyst or something nasty like that. Take care!

Welcome Wagon / Walk, Run, or Hike 10 miles a week!

Is there a team for this or is it a forum challenge?

23 Mar
I don't know. I just found this forum
